Abstract

The increasing problem of plastic waste and public awareness of environmental sustainability have encouraged the growth of creative industries based on recycling. One player in this industry is PASTE LAB Yogyakarta, which processes plastic waste into various eco-design products that have both functional and economic value. This study aims to analyze the production practices of eco-design products made from recycled plastic waste at PASTE LAB Yogyakarta from the perspectives of eco-design, circular economy, social transformation, and the community concept. The theories used include Eco-Design Theory, Circular Economy Theory, Social Transformation Theory, and Community Concept. The research uses an ethnographic method with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, documentation, and literature studies. The results show that PASTE LAB processes types of plastic waste such as HDPE, PP, LDPE, and PS into furniture, interior decorations, and accessories through production processes based on recycling. The practice reflects the application of eco-design and circular economy principles because waste is reprocessed into materials and useful products. In addition, environmental education activities and the provision of drop boxes also encourage community involvement in waste management. However, PASTE LAB still faces challenges such as limited raw materials, production technology, capital, and industry competition
